The Great Sail

is a band-aid

The story goes that the Green Building was intended to face Massachusetts Avenue. But then somebody in the adminstration had the brilliant idea of turning the building 90 degrees to give half the people in it a beatiful view of the river and Boston cityscape. Sounds reasonable enough, right? The trouble is, the main (only orginal?) entrances are through revolving doors. Well, the Green Building happens to be very near the Charles River, and right in front of an alley between Buildings 14 and 50 (Libraries and Walker Memorial Dining Hall, respectively). Giving the wind a nice clear shot to get those doors spinning at a nice clip.
