My primary duties were to assist project managers with miscellaneous needs including research and analysis. In particular I focused on a study of communal and activity spaces, where I developed a model of population density and created several maps to convey the results. I was awarded a fellowship with the NWF to continue a project I began at the end of August 2003, creating greenmaps of the MIT campus and Cambridge with GIS. A greenmap is an environmental advocacy tool that promotes sustainability by increasing public awareness of the local environment. Science Fiction and The Environment, Instructor
Created and co-lectured a short course, intended to examine the portrayal and use of overt and subtle environmental themes in science fiction. To demonstrate that beyond its sometimes prescient qualities science fiction can enrich environmental rhetoric as well as convey environmental messages to a potentially unreceptive audience.

As final projects for the course Environment and the Society groups of students were to research some aspect of the relationship between the two. I proposed a unifying theme for all the reports; that they should consider the environmental impact of the MIT campus. Each group focused on a different aspect of the footprint and as well as being a member of the team which focused on energy I synthesized the reports into the final product at http://footprint.mit.edu.
